The Jesuit College
Tour III.
Backround
The Jesuits began to build the college building in 1655, according to the design by architect Carlo Lurago. It served to accommodate members of the Order as well as some classes of the grammar school. The Jesuits stayed in Klatovy for 137 years and left the college after the Order was abolished. Just two years later, the building was converted into barracks, and mainly cavalry regiments were located here. The college served the soldiers until 1992. Thanks to gradual repairs, this building is still being used today. There is a library, municipal offices and a beautiful refectory hall. The tour will introduce you to the inhabitants of the college from the 17th century to today.
Organization of the tour
The tour is possible only with a guide, starting at the ticket office of the Catacombs. Audio guides for headsets or on a cell phone are available in English, German, French, Polish, Dutch and Russian.
