The Jesuit Church
Tour II.
Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and St. Ignatius in Klatovy
This is the pearl of Baroque architecture in West Bohemia. Its two white towers, together with the neighboring Black Tower, form an impressive panorama of Klatovy Square. The facade’s sculptural decoration depicts Jesuit saints headed by St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus. The richly decorated interior shows the wealth of the Jesuit Order and the skill of the artists and craftsmen of the time. An extraordinary main altar and a massive dome, which were created using the technique of illusive painting, are the dominant features of the church’s interior.
Organization of the tour
The church is the property of the Roman Catholic Church, so the tours take place in close cooperation with the Klatovy parish. Audio guides for headsets or on cell phones are available in English, German, French, Polish, Dutch and Russian.
For groups
Tours on other dates are possible by prior arrangement.
